Thank you for participating in the first annual Get JazzED High School Jazz Band Festival! If for some reason, you cannot participate, please let me know as soon as possible so your timeslot can be given to a band on the waiting list.

Here is some general information to help with your planning….

The festival begins promptly at 5:30 pm. Plan on arriving anytime after 4:30 pm. Your actual rehearsal and performance times will be emailed and posted March 3rd.

Travel & Parking:   If by bus: Bus parking and drop off is on the Penn Avenue side of the DoubleTree.  If by car/van: Park in the DoubleTree lot and walk to the lobby.

Upon arrival, a Get JazzED volunteer will greet you in the lobby and escort you to the Amphitheater on the main level. This is where your equipment will be stored for the evening.

Tickets for spectators will be sold at the door: $10/adults; $5/18 and under – CASH ONLY.

Food and beverage will be made available for purchase by the DoubleTree.

Regarding photography: Photographs will be taken during this event. The form can be found here —– and can be mailed, emailed or faxed.

Program Advertising/Patron information is attached or can be downloaded at

The Awards Ceremony will be held after the performances. You must be present to receive your awards and rating sheets. Awards will be given for Outstanding Sections, Soloists of Note, Outstanding Soloist, and Outstanding Ensemble. The Outstanding Ensemble will also receive a complimentary workshop with world-renowned jazz artist Gerald Veasley. More information on that will be included in your packet.

GetJazzED will provide a full backline (piano, guitar/bass amps, drum set with cymbals) in both the warm-up room and on the performance stage. Both will be set up in a standard big band format.

Rehearsals will take place in the South Jazz Parlor next to the Amphitheater. Rehearsals are closed to the public. Only those with GJ nametags will be permitted to enter.

Performance: Five minutes prior to your performance time, your group will be escorted to the stage left waiting area. The emcee will announce your group. At the end of the performance, exit stage right where you’ll be escorted back to the Amphitheater to store your instruments. Your group can then enter the Main Ballroom to listen to the other groups perform.

While scores are being tabulated, be sure to enjoy a brief performance by “TEEN TOWN!”
